Gremlins 3 Slides to 2028, and It Needs to Pick a Lane

Gremlins 3 just slid from November 2027 to October 6, 2028. Almost a full year. I’m not mad about it, but I am a little nervous.

Chris Columbus is directing. He wrote the first Gremlins, so this isn’t some stranger playing with the toys. The script is from Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who made Final Destination: Bloodlines nastier and more fun than anybody expected, and Spielberg is back through Amblin.

The first movie made $151 million on an $11 million budget. Gremlins 2 made $41 million, and I like it better, and it isn’t close. Joe Dante took the studio’s money and burned the whole franchise down from the inside, and it’s still one of the funniest sequels ever made. Columbus wrote the first one, though, so my worry is this ends up mean and tidy instead of completely unhinged.

Which Gremlins do you want this one to be: the first, or the second?
