Stanley Tucci's Masterplan Looks Like a Heist Movie That Knows It's a Family Mess

Stanley Tucci is stealing the Mona Lisa in Masterplan, and that’s all I needed to hear. He plays a legendary thief who pulls two strangers in on the job: Simona Tabasco as a cybercrime expert and Victor Belmondo as an explosives guy. Then he tells them they’re siblings, and that he’s their father.

That twist is either very funny or very dumb, and the trailer seems to know which. Belmondo is Jean-Paul Belmondo’s grandson, by the way, so putting him in a slick European caper feels a little like a family business. Thomas Vincent directs from a David Wolstencroft script, and it hits Prime Video on October 16.

Somebody actually walked the Mona Lisa out of the Louvre in 1911, and that story is still better than most heist movies. I’m hoping this one remembers that the best part of a heist is the people screwing each other over, not the vault.

What’s the last heist movie that got the family stuff right?
