98th Academy Awards — March 15, 2026

March 15, 2026 Ceremony 98 Approved Guide

Paul Thomas Anderson’s epic 'One Battle After Another' dominated the 98th Academy Awards, claiming Best Picture and finally delivering the auteur a long-awaited Best Director Oscar. Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for playing a tormented gangster-turning-saint in Ryan Coogler’s contemporary thriller 'Sinners,' while Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for her performance as Shakespeare’s wife in the Irish drama 'Hamnet.' The film also received the inaugural casting award and won Original Screenplay, cementing its status as the season’s juggernaut.

What made the ceremony unusual was how much room it still left for other voices. Despite the sweep for Anderson’s film, Coogler’s 'Sinners' picked up several craft awards and Jordan’s win carried historical weight; Buckley’s turn in 'Hamnet' represented independent European cinema; and the show itself tried to balance nostalgia for the big-screen epic with recognition of streaming-era storytelling. By the time Anderson’s cast took the stage, it felt less like a coronation than a course correction for an Academy that had overlooked his films for decades.
